Modeling virus pandemics in a globally connected world a challenge towards a mathematics for living systems

This editorial paper presents the papers published in a special issue devoted to modeling and simulation of mutating virus pandemics globally connected world. The presentation is proposed three parts. First, motivations objectives are presented according idea that mathematical models should go beyond deterministic population dynamics by considering multiscale, heterogeneous features complex system under consideration. Subsequently, contents this referring aforementioned complexity features. Finally, critical analysis overall proposed, with aim providing forward look research perspectives.
